Burlington County, NJ is one of six New Jersey counties designated to receive federal disaster relief as the result of serious flooding last week (see related stories).
Freeholder Dawn Addiego says flood damage was substantial:
“Burlington County had almost $8.3 million in assessed damage. $3.2 million of that was just for individuals.”
She says 529 homes sustained damage.
And, Addiego says, the disaster declaration means homeowners can qualify for grants or low-interest loans, for a variety of uses:
"It gives an individual financial help and direct services, which would include money to rent temporary housing, repair damage from the disaster that wasn’t covered by insurance, repair items such as structural things like walls, roofs, foundations, windows, doors -- that type of thing.”
Before you can file a disaster claim you must pre-register with FEMA by telephone at 1-800-621-3362. You can get more information online at www.fema.gov.
FEMA hopes to begin taking applications in Lumberton, NJ on Sunday from those who have pre-registered.
