Philadelphia rapper Beanie Sigel was treated on Thursday morning at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania after being shot during an attempted robbery earlier in the day.
Sigel (above in publicity photo), whose real name is Dwight Grant, tells police he was shot in the upper right arm during a hold-up attempt by five men in two cars.
But he was able to drive himself to the hospital, where he was listed in good condition and later released.
Police say Sigel told them it happened shortly after 8am. But police say they were still questioning Sigel and weren't sure exactly where the shooting took place.
Sigel tells police after the two cars blocked him in, a black man -- in his 30s with a beard and wearing jeans and boots -- approached him and shot him.
It was not immediately clear whether anything was taken from Sigel during the robbery. Police say they had no one in custody immediately after the incident.
Sigel served a year in federal prison for a gun conviction and was released last August. A month later, the rapper was found not guilty in an attempted murder.
Sigel found himself back in jail for a short stint last November after he failed to pay child support.
