New Initiative Focuses on Art-Based Education in Phila.

by KYW’s Karin Phillips

A coalition of local organizations has been tapped to take charge of a ten-year program to provide arts learning to all children and youth in Philadelphia.

A partnership of the Philadelphia Education Fund, Public Citizens of Children and Youth and the Fleischer Art Memorial will lead Arts for Youth, an initiative designed to make access to arts learning equitable and available for all children throughout the region.

Meg Long is project director of the OMG Center for Collaborative Learning. She says it's not about more money, but how better to spend what's there:

“They will be charged with coordinating all of the efforts that are currently happening, trying to streamline them, working closely with the school district, with the arts community, with major funders, the business community -- all the players that have a stake in making sure that our children have high quality educational experiences that include the arts.”
