Daniel

by KYW's Larry Kane
Produced by Jim Melwert

Seventeen-year-old Daniel is always smiling.  He likes working on cars, and loves playing sports.

(Kane:)  "What's your favorite sport?"
(Daniel:)  "Football, basketball, and baseball."
(Kane:)  "What do you play?"
(Daniel:)  "I play basketball and football."
(Kane:)  "And who's your favorite team?"
(Daniel:)  "Phillies."
(Kane:)  "How about football?"
(Daniel:)  "Eagles!"
(Kane:)  "And who's your favorite player?"
(Daniel:)  "I've been a Donovan McNabb fan all my life."

Daniel does well in school and has big plans for the future.

(Kane:)  "Do you want to go to college, or to trade school?"
(Daniel:)  "Yes."
(Kane:)  " What do you want to do? "
(Daniel:)  "Become a lawyer or something else."
(Kane:)  "A lawyer?"
(Daniel:)  "Yeah."

And social worker Ben Magnussen says just because Daniel is almost an adult doesn't mean he doesn't need an adopted family:

"When kids are 17, that's when they probably need the most help -- because he's trying to decide what he wants to do next.  I think he needs some help with that, and he's willing to listen and try different things."

And Magnussen says Daniel has a big heart:

"One of the first things you notice about Dan is his smile. But you get to know him a little bit better and you see what's behind the smile, he's a bright, happy kid.  I think he's got a lot to offer a family."
