There have now been six arrests, including two firefighters (see related story), in connection with some of the nearly 70 arson fires in the Coatesville, Pa. area since last year. And a Temple University psychologist calls this crime spree an "historic" phenomenon.
Dr. Frank Farley of Temple University (above) says the number of fires, and number of alleged perpetrators, makes this historic, and will ultimtely be a case study:
"Understanding all these perpetrators is so important because this is oine of the biggest examples we've seen of this kind of phenomenon in this country for a long time. So it is very important to study these perpetrators. I thought it was over a month ago, and all of sudden we have more fires and more arrests."
Farley and other arson experts say the potential motives are countless, but thrill seeking, excitement, revenge, and a dose of bad economy could all be contributing factors for some or any of the arsonists.
