We all know that dogs need a daily walk and plenty of exercise, but what about your cat?
Well, although a daily walk isn’t a requirement for your kitty, exercise and playtime certainly are! Cats do need exercise and playtime is the best way to provide it. Playtime serves as a good source of exercise for your cat and can help your cat to maintain a healthy weight. It not only provides a healthy daily activity but can also serve as a learning tool for younger cats and kittens. It can help multiple cats get along together on playful terms. And it can be a source of comfort to cats in the transition to a new home or a change in environment since playtime and exercise greatly reduce stress. It can even help timid cats feel more relaxed. Best of all playtime provides a superior bonding time between you and your cat.
There are numerous ways to interact with your cat in a playful mode. There are many cat toys available (many with catnip included) that are generally inexpensive. Always make sure that they are safe to use without any dangerously small pieces that could detach and be easily swallowed. Play for a few minutes or as long as your cat is interested. Stop whenever you feel your cat is becoming tired or bored. Never force your cat to play. Just pick it up again the next day. Be creative and have fun.
