Easter brings beautiful bouquets, baskets and candy. But, be aware of the possible hazards that these can pose to your pets. Do yourself a favor and keep all these things away from your pets.
First, keep both your dog and cat away from the Easter basket. Chocolate is toxic to both dogs and cats and could be life threatening if ingested. Basically, keep them away from all the sweets in general.
Aside from the obvious problems ingesting candy can bring, what’s beneath the candy can be just as dangerous. Cats and even some dogs love to play with the colorful grass that fills the Easter baskets. If ingested, this can cause serious gastrointestinal obstruction. If half ingested, never attempt to remove pieces of the grass without veterinary supervision. This can cause even more serious problems.
Keep the Easter Lily completely away from your cats. This is extremely toxic and can be fatal, producing vomiting lethargic behavior and/or lack of appetite. If suspected ingestion of even a small area of the plant, take your cat to the vet immediately. Enjoy this beautiful season but take those extra precautions to safeguard your pets.
