Thousands of Philadelphians have been getting a glossy brochure in the mail, but it's not a campaign ad. Rather, it’s a salvo in the battle over slots parlors in Philadelphia.
The Sugarhouse casino is mailing out brochures to residents across the city. Spokesman Dan Fee says the goal is to promote the benefits of the slots parlor, and to counter the claims made by “Casino-Free Philadelphia,” the group leading the charge to stop both slots parlors:
“This is a group that routinely says things that are factually false about the benefits of casinos. And at some point, enough became enough.”
Of course, one man’s truth is another man’s spin. Karim Olaechea of "Casino-Free Philadelphia," says the brochure is casino propaganda:
“People know what they’re up to. People aren’t going to be fooled by these.”
Fee, the Sugarhouse spokesman, would not say how many brochures were mailed, only that it's in the thousands.
