The largest group of newcomers to our country is Latino and transition isn’t easy.
Learning the language, housing, enrolling kids in good schools, and finding jobs is difficult and thousands of immigrants have no health coverage. Many times it’s not a question of locating a doctor, but of getting questions answered.
A new easy-to-use tool is the Women’s Wellness Guide Kiosk. It’s a free-standing electronic unit with a touch- screen that educates people—a prevention and early detection device and is available in Spanish as well as English.
Frequently asked questions and simple answers are given on heart disease, stroke, diabetes and many cancers—breast, ovarian, lung, colon and skin as well as on asthma and HIV/AIDS.
Weight management, exercise, diet, smoking and insurance information may be accessed too, to help users understand what contributes to a healthy life.
Developed for distribution through the Pennsylvania Commission for Women, the kiosks are now in 13 sites in Pennsylvania, three in the Philadelphia area. Call 1-888-615-7477 for information.
