Supersized Del. Ave. Condo Project Jumps a City Council Hurdle

by KYW's Mike Dunn

A Philadelphia City Council committee has given a preliminary okay to a new condominium tower that would be one of the tallest buildings in the city.

Approved by council’s Rules Committee was Bridgeman’s View Tower,  planned for the west side of Delaware Avenue at Poplar Street.

The building will top out at 915 feet, making it taller than everything but One Liberty Place and the under-construction Comcast Tower.

Developer Mark Stein says it won’t be just condos:

“It's going to be truly a mixed-used development.  It's going to be two floors of retail, floor floors of commercial office space.  There’s going to be a boutique hotel, and above that there’s going to be residential condos.”

The tower will have about 550 condos, with prices starting in the $600,000 range.   And Stein doesn’t mind that a slots parlor could end up nearby:

“I kind of think that it could be a good thing.  I think we could be good neighbors with them.”

If his project gets final approval, Stein hopes for completion in three years.

City councilman Frank DiCicco, in whose district this project lies, says he will call the plan up for a final vote next week -– but only if the developer has reached a cooperative agreement with Northern Liberties residents.
