A top Republican party official from Pennsylvania confirms that former Governor Tom Ridge is considering a run for US Senate next year.
On the heels of incumbent Arlen Specter’s decision to join the Democratic Party, Montgomery County businessman Bob Asher – Pennsylvania’s Republican national committeeman – confirms that former Governor Tom Ridge is considering entering the Senate race, though he declined to say whether he thought Ridge was enthusiastic about the prospect:
“Tom Ridge will make up his own mind based upon his decision. So to characterize him as enthusiastic or not enthusiastic, I don’t think would be appropriate. He is considering it, and obviously, if he wasn’t serious, he would not take the time to do so, because he has a very successful private business going.”
Word comes on the heels of recent polls showing the Ridge would pose a significant challenge to Specter.
