Every year the American Kennel Club reveals its own list of the “Most Popular Breeds” of the year. The latest list was compiled from registration statistics in 2008.
The list includes Miniature Schnauzers, Shih Tzus, Poodles, Boxers, Dachshunds, Beagles, German Shepherds, Yorkshire Terriers, Golden Retrievers and the most popular breed for the 18th consecutive year according to the AKC is still the Labrador Retriever.
The list for Philadelphia also includes the Pug, the Rottweiler and the Doberman Pinscher. Gaining in popularity are the Bulldog, the German Shepherd and the Boxer. These dogs are all great family dogs, as are the many in local shelters. There are many such as these that still need good loving homes.
