Former Temple University center Alex Derenthal has signed a rookie free-agent deal with the New York Giants.
Derenthal (right) started at center in 47 consecutive games for the Owls, and he says that experience was huge:
"I controlled the offensive line for four years. I made a lot of calls. I believe that will help me and has helped me get where I am now."
Derenthal says the presence of All-Pro center Shaun O'Hara in New York is one big reason why joining that team made sense for him:
"I think it will be a good learning experience to play behind him, and they are a great franchise. I mean, there's a lot of history there and I am proud to be a part of it."
Derenthal was a second team all-MAC selection as a senior at Temple. He was named the team's MVP following his sophomore season, and the Owls' offensive MVP as a junior.
