Gloucester County, NJ to Sell Off Some Properties

by KYW’s Pat Loeb

Gloucester County is playing realtor. It's selling off property that used be county facilities.

Forty thousand square feet on three and two-thirds acre fronting Fries Mill Road in Washington Township -- and it could be yours.

Gloucester County Freeholder Director Stephen Sweeney says it's the first of three properties the county intends to sell:

“We did a plan, looking at our existing space and we realized we could move more people around by renovating some of our other buildings and have the ability to sell some of these buildings and that's what we're in the process of doing now.”

Sweeney says it's a triple win -- it saves continued spending on the buildings, the sale itself makes money and then it becomes a tax ratable property, generating revenue into the future.

So -- what took them so long? Call it a sign of the times:

“As government continues to evolve and we try to do more with less, you take a harder look at things.”

Sweeney says the county will sell the building by Internet auction next month. Potential bidders can walk through the building either of the next two Wednesdays.
