A new Pennsylvania energy-conservation program got underway Monday with a ceremony in Roxborough. The program means that homeowners who invest in solar energy can get major rebates for the project.
Caps on electric prices will be coming off soon in Pennsylvania (see related story), and Governor Ed Rendell says the so-called "Sunshine Program" will provide $100 million in rebates to help fund solar electric and hot water projects:
"It creates rebates that reimburse consumers for up to 35 percent of the purchase and installation costs of solar energny."
Daniel Long of the LLB Group in Glenside, Pa. plans to take advantage of the program, and the federal stimulus program as well:
"Without the program it's about $135,000 to put up those plans. With those two programs in place, it's going to be down to about $50,000. And the ROI (return on investment), it looks like about seven years."
Long says the solar panels will provide about 35 percent of the electricity needs for the company, which designs point-of-purchase displays.
