Collegeville 5th Grader Suspended in Knife Incident

by KYW's Pat Loeb

Perkiomen Valley school officials have suspended a fifth grade student after he allegedly brought a knife to school and put it to the throat of two classmates.

School officials say the student brought a locking blade to Evergreen Elementary School in Collegeville, Pa.

District spokesperson Michelle Brown says the 11-year-old showed it to another student, then took it into a bathroom. She says two more students were called into the bathroom, one at a time, and the student placed the blade at their throats:

"The student was play-acting in a way that showed very bad judgment. Certainly he didn't intend any harm but that doesn't lessen the offense."

Brown says no students were injured. The incident was reported, and school officials secured the knife and called police. She says the student is suspended for ten days while the school investigates further.
