New US Postal rates are now in effect. A first-class stamp will cost you 41 cents under the new rate structure.
US Postal Service spokeswoman Cathy Yarosky:
"This Monday, May 14th, our first-class prices are going to increase from 39 cents to 41 cents. And each additional ounce will go from 24 to 17 cents. Shape now matters. Previously, our rates were base on weight. But now, it's going to be based a lot on shape. This is important to us because the cost of handing each mail shape varies widely."
If a customer has any questions, Yarosky says, postal clerks will be able to easily explain the new guidelines.
