In preparation for expanding its casino in Bensalem, Pa. later this year, Philadelphia Park is hiring. And there was no shortage of applicants at a job fair on Thursday in Bucks County.
Hundreds of job seekers started lining up an hour before the fair began. They came dressed to impress, résumés in hand, hoping to secure one of the 200 coveted positions that are available.
Philadelphia Park (above) is opening a $250-million permanent casino in December.
Augie Falbo, of Abington (Montgomery County), interviewed for a customer service position and hopes his experience puts him at the head of the list:
“I was in the automobile business, and for 22 years I worked for the same company. And since I got promoted to management… you’re the first to go.”
Lisa Berman of nearby Southampton is currently working part-time but is looking for full-time employment. Given all the competition, she hopes she made enough of an impression to push her to the second round of interviews:
"Well, they say dress for success, so I think if you dress and you make a good impression you have a good chance of getting a job. It’s all about personable people skills.”
Philadelphia Park is looking for casino hosts, cashiers, managers, janitors, security personnel, even parking valets.
Darlene Monzo, vice president of marketing for the casino, says the prospective employees are being interviewed now because they want to get them hired early, so they have time to get their training before they hit the casino floor running in December.
