A four-year-old boy was in critical condition on Thursday with a head injury and his 29-year-old father was in stable condition, after the pair were struck by an SUV near the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
Philadelphia police say the accident happened just before 10am near Eakins Oval, as the boy and his father were riding together on a bicycle.
Police lieutenant Frank Vanore says one vehicle stopped for them as they entered a crosswalk and the driver waved them across, but another vehicle apparently did not see them crossing:
"The vehicle that stopped had clearly seen them, but the vehicle that was coming around did not, and went around the stopped vehicle and struck them as they passed."
Both drivers remained at the scene. The father and son were rushed to area hospitals. No charges were immediately filed.
