CBS's Jim Nance was in town recently to help promote the Walker Cup, coming to his club this fall.
That's right -- Merion, in Ardmore, is his club. Nance has been a nonresident member for several years, although he confesses his schedule too often keeps him away from the course he absolutely loves:
"There are more interesting kind of looks and plays here on every single hole than maybe any course in the world. And I have been lucky to play almost all of them.
"I can't think of a course that's more fun to play than Merion, because you stand over every shot, and it just gets a golfer thinking about the challenge that's ahead. There's something about the sculpting of the bunkering and the way a green is positioned. It's just pure joy."
Nance is thrilled that Merion is hosting this year's Walker Cup, and then the US Open in 2013.
Nance says he would enjoy seeing his friend Buddy Marucci captain the US team to another victory this year, like Marucci did two years ago at Royal County Down. This one would be extra special at the course that Marucci calls home.
You can hear more of Nance's thoughts on Merion -- and his old college buddy Fred Couples -- in a podcast at right.
