Grade School Assembly Is For the Dogs
|
by KYW's John McDevitt
An animal welfare organization in Valley Forge is seeking elementary schools in Chester and Montgomery counties that are interested in a free educational assembly made possible by a 25-thousand dollar grant.
The grant is from the Alice Everard Charatiable foundation and it allows the Animal Welfare Project to put on 30 school assemblies. There were some spots remaining.
The program includes a number of topics like spaying and neutering of pets, puppy mills and service dogs.
Janet Gerhart and her 3 1/2 year old Bouvier, Ike teach the kids about working canines.
"Ike is my mobility assistance dog he helps me with my balance and he pulls me up and sown stairs and up and down hills. (mcdevitt: you actually lean on him.) yes."
Gerhart said the assemblies are free to the schools.
