Behavior Modification and Peer Support for Weight Loss

by KYW's medical editor Dr. Brian McDonough

They are called behavior modification programs. These are attempts to help people lose weight by adjusting their approach to diet and exercise. They have repeatedly been shown to help people knock off the pounds.  But what about keeping off the weight?

Now there is new information to support the continued role of behavioral support. It is this guidance which can be a major help after the diet. In other words there is a tendency at some point to sit back, relax and go back to the old habits.

Not everyone can pay for behavioral therapists but what you can do is work with friends and look at solutions.

I am a big believer that peer support can make all of the difference in the world when it comes to a successful weight program. Remember you are not in this alone.
