A North Wales, Pa. man has been found guilty of stealing about $28,000 from a dozen Philadelphia firefighters who thought he was investing their money in a real estate deal.
The firefighters testified during the trial that Larry Harris told them he would use their money to buy houses, rehab them and then flip them returning big profits on their investment.
They went to police about a year later when they didn’t see any money. The jury convicted the 44-year-old man of theft and securities fraud charges.
Prosecutor Bob Sander then successfully argued to have Harris’ bail revoked saying he’s looking at a significant jail sentence:
“Either that he’s going to flee and not appear for sentencing or that he’s going to be able to scam other people while he’s out on the streets.”
Sander says Harris used the firefighters’ money to live a lavish lifestyle.
As Harris was being led from the courtroom in handcuffs, his wife threatened a detective and the prosecutor. After being escorted out by sheriff’s deputies, she put a hole in the wall inside a nearby ladies room.
