Relaxing For Your Short Game

by KYW's Ed Abrams

It's a good weekend to get back to short game basics with Penn Oaks teaching professional Doug Hendricks:

"When you get a good setup, the results are usually pretty good.  Take the time to put your weight in the right position, align your shoulders properly, get your hands in the proper position, and trust it from there. You'll have good success."

(Abrams:)  "Good players look very comfortable around the greens.  Higher handicappers get over a chip shot and they look stiff, forced, contrived.  How do you get over that and get comfortable?"

(Hendricks:)  "That's a great comment because I see it every day, and I think you have to get back to fundamentals.  I think being comfortable just comes down to trusting.   If you're not comfortable and consistent with that golf ball, you're not going to trust the shot, and then it's not uncommon to be trying something different each round."

Listen to your pro and believe in your stroke -- trust and obey, for there's no other way -- to be happy with your short game.

And then join us on TV for more tips on Golfshots, Sunday nights at 6:00pm on Comcast Sportsnet.
