An A-List celebrity is lending his talents to help raise money for the mummers organization.
Actor Kevin Bacon (in black t-shirt) is a Philadelphia native who has some fond Mummers memories:
"And I remember seeing for the first time men dressed as women!"
That's why he and his brother Michael (fifth from right in photo), who have a band called The Bacon Brothers, decided to come here to Philadelphia, to producer Larry Gold's studio, to re-record their song "New Year's Day" with some big band flavor:
(Kevin:) "Michael, after we recorded it, had the idea of reaching out to the Mummers. And it was at that point that it became clear that the organization was threatened financially."
Dan Mizner, with the Polish American String Band, describes working with the Bacon Brothers:
"A little nerve-wracking, but once we worked through it and they did all the sound checks and all that stuff, it seemed to work out pretty well. So it was pretty cool."
The song should be available online in about six weeks at www.savethemummers.com.
