Are you interested in learning how to volunteer to help the Bucks County community during a public health emergency or pandemic event? There’s an informational fair on Saturday to introduce residents to the Medical Reserve Corps.
The Bucks County Corps was formed four years ago and has helped the county conduct three Pandemic Flu drills during which more than 10,000 residents received free seasonal flu shots. The Corps is always looking for medial and non-medical volunteers to partner up with county officials and first responders to prepare for the unexpected. Suzanne Hecker is the MRC coordinator:
“We have our emergency preparedness plans for the county, but often times we don’t have enough personnel within the county or within our first responder base to carry out these plans if there was a very large countrywide event.”
The two-hour outreach effort gets underway at 11am at the Warrington Fire Company. National events like Hurricane Katrina and the 9/11 attacks highlighted the need for volunteers to assist in emergency response.
