PGA Official (and Local Pro) Tom Carpus

by KYW's Ed Abrams

Local rules maven Tom Carpus is not officiating at the US Open this weekend, but he is still on a bit of a high from working the Ryder Cup:

"I did the Casey/Garcia against Curtis/Stricker match, and it was terrific.  Right down to the wire, and I think only two holes were decided.  Each side won one hole and all the rest were halved."

So you managed to go the whole weekend and not tick anybody off?

"Yeah, it's hard to believe, isn't it?  No, it was pretty special.  We had no major incidents, which is what all of us want.  The players are the highlight -- that's why people are there.  Perhaps unlike some other sports, we're just trying to be in there only when they need us, and to prevent problems before they occur."

The Kennett Square head professional will be working and hoping to keep a low profile again at a couple of upcoming majors -- the Women's Open at Saucon Valley, and the PGA Championship at Hazeltine.

And for more golf, join me on TV for Golfshots, Sunday nights at 6pm on Comcast Sportsnet.
