Don't Forget Practice at the Driving Range

by KYW's Ed Abrams

With all the rain we've had, golfers are dying to get out on the course!  But Bala Golf Club teaching professional Rick Flagler says that in your zeal to play, don't make yourself a stranger at the range:

"Don't forget about balancing your practice with your play.  You get disciplined in the spring and go to the range three, four, maybe five times a week to practice.

"Now, suddenly, you get away from that, so the swing you built up and had confidence in early starts to break down because you're not doing the maintenance.  You can't do maintenance on your swing on the golf course."

Look at tour players.  Flagler says sure they have a ton of talent, but they also practice prior to and after most rounds.

Most of us don't have that much time, but he says we CAN continue to work on the basics:

"Grip. Stance. Posture. Alignment.  You hear it over and over -- everybody will say the same thing -- but get back to fundamentals.  You work hard on the tempo of your swing.  My guys, we talk a lot about swinging within ourselves."

For more instruction and some course tours, join me on TV for Golfshots, Sunday nights at 6pm on Comcast Sportsnet.
