New Exhibit Displays Photos of Foster Kids
|
by KYW’s Karin Phillips
The "Heart Gallery" is opening for the next month at the Please Touch Museum in Fairmount Park. The gallery features the portraits and stories of foster children who are waiting for adoption in Philadelphia.
The Heart Gallery, in collaboration with the Philadelphia Department of Human Services, showcases stirring photographs and images of foster children awaiting adoption in Philadelphia.
One of the founders, Terry Hirst, says it always has an effect on people who see it:
“It’s very emotional; very much from the heart. They look at these kids' faces and it's like, look at this child, this child is so beautiful, this child needs a home. So I think it wakes people up in a way.”
Hirst says the exhibit not only serves to highlight the need for adoptive families but also gives faces and voices to kids who are looking for their "forever families."
Since the exhibit began in 2006, over 30 children have been matched with adoptive families. The gallery will be at the Please Touch Museum through July.
