Long Summer Days Are Good for Your Health

by KYW's medical editor Dr. Brian McDonough

June is a strange month. One day it can feel like summer and the next it can be rainy and a bit chilly. But there is one consistent fact no matter what the weather might be on a particular day. The daylight hours are longer, and in my opinion this may be summer’s greatest gift from a health standpoint.

More daylight can mean more time outdoors exercising and more hours to interact with your family. It could be some outdoor grilling or a long walk with the family pet with the kids at your side. I can’t think of a better way to stay healthy than exercising and reducing stress with the ones you care about most.

Those cold winter days that turn gray at 4:00 pm are a distant memory. Take advantage of the season.
