Adults can now have their own fun at the Please Touch Museum in Fairmount Park, with tours designed to examine the building's architecture and history.
The museum's latest home has a storied history that began in 1876 when it was built for the US Centennial Exhibition. As Memorial Hall it then served as an art museum and a university of the arts, later an administration building for the Fairmount Park police, and in its latter days a recreation center.
Stacey Swigart, curator of collections at the Please Touch Museum, says adults can now arrange guided tours of the historic building -- or they can conduct a self-guided tour:
"You can come in on your own. And say you're just a couple of people who just want to experience the building, you'll get a tour map. And we have a series we call the Centennial Journey, where there's a variety of panels [top photo] with information peppered throughout the building and all the exhibits."
Call the museum's reservation desk at 215-581-3181 for details.
