Pennsylvania consumers can now go online to verify that a home improvement contractor is registered with the state.
Last year, the Pennsylvania legislature passed a law requiring all contractors who perform more than $5,000 in home improvements per year to register with the state attorney general’s office. Now, in compliance with the law, that information is available on line. Nils Frederiksen, a spokesman for Attorney General Tom Corbett, says 26,000 contractors have registered so far:
“You’ll be able to get information about who’s involved in the business, you’ll be able to find out whether or not they’ve been involved in any legal actions.”
And the information provided by contractors will make it easier to find them when consumers have a problem -- something designed to make it tougher for unscrupulous contractors to operate in Pennsylvania.
