Go 'Fourth' But Celebrate Safely

by KYW's medical editor Dr. Brian McDonough

Independence Day is a time of great celebration. The obvious reason is that it is our nation’s birthday, but it doesn’t hurt that it happens in the summer and this year it is being celebrated by most of us on July 3 and 4.

My advice, in these stressful times, take a break and celebrate. Enjoy your weekend and get away from it all.

This being said, please be aware there are dangers out there. The first is obvious.  With celebration there is often alcohol and some people will be out on the road after drinking. Please protect yourself by making sure you are not one of these people.  Plan ahead if you are going to drink and have a designated driver. Also, make certain you are more aware of dangers on the road. Seatbelts and caution are the word for the weekend whether you are driving short distances or cross country.

Have fun but be smart.
