Phila. International Airport Unveils Baseball Exhibit

by KYW's Steve Tawa

Visitors and locals traveling through terminal A at Philadelphia International Airport will see plenty of memories -- an historical depiction of Philadelphia's long and storied baseball triumphs, including the reigning World Series champions.

Mayor Nutter pointed to a sign next to the World Series trophy, that the airport ranked highest in customer satisfaction in a 2008 JD Power survey:

"The same year, the Phillies ranked highest in customer and fan satisfaction."

The exhibit features action shots, dating from the early 1900's through last year. The 2008 photos include the final Brad Lidge pitch, then pandemonium on the mound. It also includes the 1980 championship club, and definitive players of that era, according to Airport Director of Exhibitions, Leah Douglas:

"Gary Maddox, Tug McGraw, Steve Carlton and Mike Schmidt."

There are others images, like from the early 1900's when the legendary Connie Mack managed the Athletics to five world championships.
