Independence Mall was packed with tourists Friday enjoying the start of the Fourth of July celebrations.
The celebration included a reading of the declaration of Independence, the main reason Estee stopped by:
"It was really great. We really liked participating and cheering when they talked about independence and booing when they talked about Britain."
Her friend, Andrea, wanted a free piece of independence birthday cake, and to make sure she saw some of the famous sites:
"I've been living in Philly for the past three years at Penn and have never been to Independence Hall, so I wanted to see it before my last year here."
Visitors learned about the life of Abraham Lincoln, played games, listened to reenactors and musicians and made top hats out of black paper.
