June was not the best month for people who own businesses down the shore. What do proprietors think about July so far? Are they hopeful?
As bad as you thought June was, it was worse for Jersey shore business owners. Jay Schatz is the owner of The Abbey, a prominent Cape May Bed and Breakfast:
"It was monsoon season. It rained 21 out of 30 days in June one time or another and you got bad forecasts when the weekend was good. We had good weather on the weekends, but no one came because by Wednesday they were predicting bad weather and no one would call."
What does this weekend look like?
"It looks pretty solid. There's not too many openings any place that I know of, although there are openings here and there. We are getting a cancellation here or there, so there's no reason people can't call the Cape May Chamber of Commerce or the historic accommodations hotline."
