This holiday weekend means a lot of people will be spending a lot of time in the sun and for many that will mean sunburn. One local expert says there are many ways to treat sunburn at home.
Dr. Ara DerMarderosian is a professor of pharmcognosy at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia. He says the best strategy is obviously to prevent sunburn in the first place but if you do get more color then you should, you can treat it within the comfort of your home:
“All the way from things that are in the kitchen to the fact there are a lot of plants that have some active ingredients. One of the simple ones is if you happen to have an aloe plant, aloe does happen to have the juice that has shown to be very effective; cutting a small leaf and applying that aloe on the burn.”
As for those kitchens items you can use, Dr. DerMarderosian says you can use such everyday items like oatmeal, cucumber and honey to help treat sunburn.
