An accident during a Fourth of July fireworks show in Quakertown has claimed the life of a worker putting on the display.
Quakertown Borough police in Bucks County are confirming that an unidentified fireworks handler was killed on Saturday night when a fireworks display being held at Memorial Park at 4th and Mill Streets went awry.
The victim, an employee of the fireworks company that had been staging the display, was pronounced dead at St. Luke’s Hospital, which is just a few blocks away from the park which had been the scene of an all-day Independence Day celebration.
The incident, which is under investigation, happened during the grand finale just before 10pm.
Quakertown police say they plan a news briefing for Monday.
