Residents of Delran, NJ and nearby communities welcomed back New Jersey National Guard members with a parade and barbecue on Sunday.
The return of the largest New Jersey National Guard deployment since World War II has been cheered in many communities and Tom Farrell, of the Delran VFW post says he wanted to do something special for local veterans:
"We wanted to make sure these kids were welcomed home. I'm a Vietnam veteran and so are most of my post members now, and we never had a welcome home so our job is to make sure these kids are shown that they are appreciated for what they have done."
About 20 recently returned veterans and their families rode aboard fire engines. Residents along the one mile route decorated their yards with yellow ribbons and welcome home signs.
