Art and history combine at a new art exhibit about the early days of West Philadelphia, going back a couple of centuries.
Lynn Mardsen-Atlass (right) is director of the Arthur Ross Gallery at the University of Pennsylvania:
"We have about 20 watercolors of David Kennedy. We have about 16 black-and-white photographs that span the period of the 19th Century until today."
She says the free exhibit -- depicting houses, institutions, and streets -- allows visitors to look at West Philadelphia through the years:
"You can look at your own neighborhood like Cedar Park, Cobbs Creek, Mantua, Parkside, Powelton Village, Spruce Hill, or Overbrook, and you can locate the history of your neighborhood, and you can track it from the 18th century until now."
The gallery, at 220 South 34th Street, is planning to offer a cell phone tour in early August.
