Is the bottled water we drink as safe as tap water?
The answer a Congressional panel was expected to hear on Wednesday is that no one really knows, because bottled water isn't regulated.
Americans drink an enormous amount of bottled water -- billions of bottles, every year. And while there is strict federal regulation of the water that comes out of your tap, you generally can't find out where the water in those plastic bottles comes from or what's in it.
Several disturbing reports will be released at the Congressional hearing, focusing on whether tougher regulation of bottled water is needed. One report will look at whether any dangerous chemicals may leach in from the plastic.
