A suspicious package found Wednesday morning in Montgomery County has turned out to be an actual explosive.
The suspicious object was reported in the parking lot of Landes Brothers Foods, a food wholesaling company on Yerkes Road in Upper Providence Township.
Sheriff John Durante says authorities investigated right away:
"Upon arrival, the sherrif's department bomb disposal unit identified a device with tape and wires or a fuse coming out of it."
Durante says it was, in fact, dangerous:
"It was live. It had a device that could've been capable of making this thing explode."
And the sheriff says that explosion could have been devastating:
"That type of blast would certainly tear a car apart or would maim - a person would lose a limb or their eyesight and ultimately even be killed."
He encourages folks on trails or parking lots to keep an eye out for suspicious objects. Don't touch them. Instead, call 911 right away
