Montgomery County prosecutors say it was a 10-year-old boy who brutally beat a puppy on the streets of Norristown, Pa. last month. They believe it was a reward that spurred people to come forward and point the finger.
Police say there were witnesses to the attack and a reward fund grew to $500 before they were able to identify the attacker as a 10-year-old boy.
Prosecutor Abby Silverman says the suspect was reportedly seen hitting the puppy with a stick in a parking lot on West Marshall Street and she credits the public for helping police solve the crime:
"People were really touched by this, and again, I think that what struck so many people was the age. Here you have a puppy that’s not even three months old and the viciousness of the beating, it did have several fractures in its legs.”
The German shepherd-collie mix is being cared for at the SPCA in Whitemarsh. It’s believed the dog will have a new home once it fully recovers from surgery to repair the broken legs.
