Sports: Shane Victorino Hopes GW Hit Helps All-Star Case
|
by KYW's Mike Dougherty
Phillies center fielder Shane Victorino hopes his game winning hit on Wednesday night will give him the boost he needs to win a fan vote which decides the final spot on the 2009 National League All-Star team.
"Hopefully I put enough pressure on the fans and the manager. You know, hopefully I'll get that opportunity."
The voting has been feverish with the lead changing at least five times in two days, but Victorino is doing his best to earn every last vote with seven hits in the last three games -- including a homer and Wednesday night's game winner (see game recap).
KYW Newsradio's sister station Sportsradio WIP is doing their part to help the Flyin' Hawaiian. They solicited the services of three super fans who have been voting around the clock -- without any sleep -- to push their man into the summer classic. Now that's dedication!
Voting ends at 4pm on Thursday, so if you want to see Shane join his buddies Ryan Howard, Chase Utley and Raul Ibanez in St. Louis, vote here as often as you like.
The other finalists are Pablo Sandoval (Giants), Christian Guzman (Nationals), Matt Kemp (Dodgers), Mark Reynolds (Diamondbacks).
