Leaders of Philadelphia's Catholic and Jewish communities got together on Thursday afternoon to talk about relations between the two faiths.
Cardinal Justin Rigali greeted members of the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia:
"Dear friends, shalom. Shalom."
He spoke of the significance of Pope Benedict XVI's May trip to Jerusalem:
"He is hoping that the friendship manifested will set an example. And he's certainly encouraging Christians -- those of his faith, of his church -- to be faithful to what he is teaching and to what we believe."
Federation president Len Barrack has a positive view of the relations between the Catholics and Jews in Philadelphia:
"The Catholic community has joined with other ethnicities to oppose anti-Semitism when and if it occurs."
Barrack says it's possible to agree to disagree on Israeli political issues and still maintain a commonality of ideas to make Philadelphia better.
