Coming Soon to Your Grocer's Freezer: Super High-End Sorbets

by KYW's Lauren Lipton

In several weeks you will be able to walk into some local stores and get gourmet sorbet that until now has been served only at one of the most famous restaurants in the world -- Philadelphia's Le Bec Fin

Andrea Perrier is the wife of Le Bec Fin owner Georges Perrier:

"We worked in conjunction with Chef Perrier, my husband, to come up with these recipes.  Some of them he has already had, and has been using in the restaurant for many years."

Andrea Perrier (near right) says she and Kelly MacLeod (far right) and MacLeod's husband Michael (Andrea's brother, not shown) have partnered to form Pure Gourmet, with Georges Perrier heading up the culinary board.

(Georges Perrier:)  "There is a lot of sorbet on the market, but there is very few quality sorbet."

(Andrea Perrier:)  "We have four flavors -- pear ginger, tropical, mojito, and then we have the chocolate with a homemade caramel swirl.  Decadent!  It's like frozen fudge."

The sorbet is the first product in the Pure Gourmet line, and among the first retail outlets that will be carrying it is DiBruno Brothers.

(Andrea Perrier:)  "Our concept is to create a frozen food line that is based on organics without sacrificing the purity of the taste."

(Kelly MacLeod:)  "Down the road, we want to move to the appetizers, so we'll have some of our own in-house recipes that Andrea develops, but we'll also have some other features from Chef Perrier."

(Georges Perrier:)  "My wife and my sister-in-law want to put me to work.  I don't do enough work, so they want to make me work a little bit more."

And that's Positively Philadelphia!
