Philabundance's New Food Drive Begins Next Weekend

by KYW’s Karin Phillips

Share the Harvest kicks off July 18th, with Philabundance asking area gardeners to donate their surplus produce to help feed the region's hungry.

Pole beans, a variety of tomato plants, kale, carrots, eggplant -- you name it.  It all goes to help fill the garden at St. Asp’s church on Conshohocken State Road in Bala Cynwyd, which will also be one of many drop off sites around the region for surplus produce every Saturday from July 18th through September 26th.

Martha Buccino is with Philabundance:

"Produce is something that comes at a very, very high price right now and during the summer; it's always wonderful to have the produce to give to the children."

Barry Hart is the priest at St. Asaph's. He discusses the idea:

"[It's to] have people be fed and also enjoy the bounty that God's Earth provides for us each and every summer season.”

For more information and a list of drop off sites, go to philabundance.org.
