So, how’s Philadelphia tourism faring in this down economy? Not too shabby, all things considered.
You’d expect the head of the Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation to put the best spin on things. And Meryl Levitz points with pride to the 4th of July when 97% of all hotel rooms were filled:
“July 4th came on a Saturday night. Whenever we have a holiday on a weekend, we do very well.”
Paired with good weather, a free Sheryl Crow concert, a major religious convention and even the Mets being in town and it makes for a prosperous weekend. But it’s not all rosy.
The average price for a hotel room is down about $22 as compared to last year. And international tourism compared to record highs posted last year is expected to be down.
