The latest eatery by Philadelphia restaurateur Stephen Starr officially opens on Thursday, but this one is no Buddakan or Pod.
It's a hamburger and hot dog shack -- but yes, a bit upscale -- on Franklin Square.
Shane Cash (right), executive chef of the Starr Restaurant Catering Group, says Squareburger boasts a shake that includes a Tastykake Butterscotch Krimpet, plus other familiar foods with a twist:
"We have malted shakes, we have double chocolate shakes. We have a Philly dog [photo at top], which is a Hebrew National hot dog wrapped in kosher salami, with pickled cucumbers, cherry peppers. Delicious!"
And don't forget the salads and sundaes.
Amy Needle, executive director of Historic Philadelphia, says Squareburger is the answer to demands from Franklin Square visitors:
"There are not a lot of food options for families nearby, and so we wanted to have 'fun' food that families and kids would like -- but some healthy options as well."
