Hiking in Pennsylvania, With Some Helpful Pocket Guides

by KYW's Lauren Lipton

If you're looking for some extra summer fun, how about a trip to the Pennsylvania Highlands?

Wait a minute, the Pennsylvania Highlands?

"The Pennsylvania Highlands are beautiful, and most people don't even realize they're there."

That's Jennifer Heisey, with the Appalachian Mountain Club, Mid-Atlantic Division.  They're offering a new series of pocket-sized hiking cards, and they're free:

"We have highlighted in a series of hiking cards 22 different places, all within easy reach of the Philadelphia area."

Some examples:

"In Montgomery County, I would suggest going on the Perkiomen Green Lane Park, Central Valley Perkiomen Park. They also have some other little historic parks right off the trail."

In Bucks County:

"Go up to Ralph Stover State Park, close to the Delaware River, north of Doylestown, and there's a great scenic view up on high rocks looking down at the river."

The cards are called "Hike the Highlands."

"In Chester County, I would suggest Hibernia County Park.  It's really close to Philadelphia.  A lot of hiking, boating.  You can do fishing, you can camp there."

A scavenger hunt adds some fun -- and you can't cheat.

"You have to go to the site and find the answer there.  We made them so you cannot find them online."
